Every child is an artist. Art fuels the imagination and opens the hearts and minds of young people. It allows children to achieve their fullest creative potential and experience the world in new ways. Art is a process of learning to communicate visually through idea development, planning, material processes, and contemplation.
Through use of diverse art materials and techniques, including drawing, painting, sculpture and mixed media students learn basic art making methods while developing critical and creative problem solving skills. Art concepts are taught through activities based on the elements of art (line, shape, color, texture, and value) and the principles of design (pattern, balance, space, variety, repetition and proportion).
The art program provides a secure environment for individual artistic expression and is intended to be developmentally appropriate at each grade level. Art activities are designed to complement and enhance Nazareth Academy Grade School’s academic curriculum.
